- SMITHSBURG Melanie Kay McKenzie, 28, of Smithsburg, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, in Hagerstown, as the result of an automobile accident. Born March 25, 1975, at Cumberland, she was a 1993 graduate of Allegany High School and attended Allegany College of Maryland. She was employed by Drs. Chris Borkman and Charles Kovalchick, Frederick, as a Dental Receptionist. She was loved and will be sadly missed by, her daughter, Kaylei Madison Keifer; fiance, Brandon Keifer; mother, Robin Jo McKenzie; two sisters, Jessica M. Wilson and Angela R. McKenzie, all of Smithsburg, her father and stepmother, Doug and Peg McKenzie, Eckhart; a stepsister, Jennifer A. Cain, Jersey City, N.J.; her maternal grandparents, James and Kathleen Robinson, Ocean City, (formerly of Cumberland); and her paternal grandparents Milnor C. Bud and Mary Catherine McKenzie, LaVale. She is also survived by: her aunt, Debbie McKenzie, Cumberland; her uncle, Joseph M. Buddy McKenzie and family, LaVale; her aunt, Kathy Jacobs and family, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; brother-in-law, Tori Wilson, Pittsburgh, Pa.; nephew, Tyler McKenzie, Smithsburg; and Kayleis grandparents, Pete and Ruth Keifer, Cumberland. Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.Merritt-Adamsfuneralhome.com) on Wednesday, June 18, 2003, from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saints Peters and Pauls Catholic Church, on Thursday, June 19, 2003, at 10 a.m. with Father James Kurtz, O.F.M., Cap., Celebrant. Interment will be in Saint Ambrose Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Kaylei Madison Keifer Trust Fund, c/o Fidelity Bank, PO Box 50, Frostburg, MD 21532.
