He was a member of First Congregational Church. Surviving are his wife, Louise (McKenzie) Bittinger, one son, Herman L. Bittinger, Colorado Springs, Colo.; three daughters, Robin "Cheryl" Bowman, Swanton, Md.; Tina Marie McKenzie, Frostburg, Md.; and Thelma Jean Caruthers, Springs; two stepsons, Joseph H. Minnick, Baltimore, Md.; and Roger A. Minnick Sr., Frostburg, Md.; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Patricia Winfield, Frostburg, Md.; two brothers, Charles Bittinger, Lisbon, Ohio; and George Bittinger, also of Ohio; three sisters, Ethel Morrison, Uniontown; Mrs. Gladys Morris, Tomahawk Lake, Ohio; and Mrs. Isabelle Hebner, Cumberland, Md.; seven grandchildren and nine stepgrandchildren. Friends were received in the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, Md., where a service was conducted June 29 by the Rev. James F. Mou. Interment was in Trinity Cemetery, New Germany, Md. The Republic, Meyersdale, 9 July 1987.
