- Loretta B. Baker (Loretta Agatha Crowe-2, Ernest Floyd-1) was born on 9 Aug 1921 in Greenville Township, Somerset Co., Pennsylvania. She died on 22 Oct 2010 at the age of 89 in Frostburg, Allegany Co., Maryland. FROSTBURG — Loretta B. Gracie, 89, died Oct. 22, 2010, at Frostburg Village Nursing Care Center. Born Aug. 9, 1921, in Greenville Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James Baker and Loretta (Crowe) Baker. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Richard Gracie; five brothers, Arthur, Frank, Floyd, Albert and Paul Baker; six sisters, Eliza (Baker) Wolford, Minnie (Baker) Zearfoss, Katherine Baker, Dorothy (Spiker) Llewellyn, Mabel (Baker) Warne and Josephine (Baker) Miller; a son-in-law, Henry Marvin Miller; and a great-grandson, David Richard Miller. Loretta was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Frostburg American Legion Auxiliary, the El Fidel Club, Dale’s Mixed Bowling League and a lifetime member of SCAMPS. She worked for the City of Frostburg the Department of Parks and Recreation and organized teen dances in the 1970’s, which led to the current Frostburg Senior and Community Center. She volunteered as a 4-H leader, for the SHIP program and served on the board of directors at HRDC. She was a founding member of the Frostburg Senior Citizen Club and Loretta’s Thursday Card Party. She participated 26 years in the Maryland Senior Olympics and received many medals. She was a nominee for the 2003 Senior Citizen of the Year and was awarded the Maryland Volunteer of the Year in 2006. Surviving are three daughters, Genevieve Miller, Barbara Allen and husband John and Eileen Topping and husband Gary; seven grandchildren, Janet (Miller) Murray, Marvin Miller and wife Karen, Krista (Allen) Livengood and husband Eddie, Cathy (Allen) Albright and husband Dan, John Thomas Allen Jr. and wife Carrie, Kyle Topping and Ryan Topping; nine great-grandchildren, Eric, Jarrod and Meredith Murray, Dominique Miller, Trace and Sierra Livengood, Rachel Albright, Dalton and Isabel Allen; six great-great-grandchildren, Payton, Bridgette, Hunter, Candace, Skylar and Jackson. Also surviving are two sisters, Ruth Holt of Meyersdale, Pa., and Elva Watkins of Frostburg. In addition, she is survived by brothers-in-law, Earl “Sonny” Gracie and Ned “Bus” Gracie; and sister-in-law, Shirley Gracie. She also leaves a special niece, Patty Baker Gray along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family that she loved dearly. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Sunday, Oct. 24, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Frostburg, on Monday at 10 a.m. with Father Ed Hendricks as celebrant. Interment will be in the Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale. The family offers heartfelt appreciation to the staff at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home for the loving care given to Loretta over the last five months.
