- ECKHART — Joseph R. McKenzie, 76, of Oldtowne Manor, formerly of Beechers Avenue, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born Oct. 24, 1924, in Gilmore, he was the son of the late Joseph and Pearl (Sanders) McKenzie. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ella (Porter) McKenzie and two brothers, Edward McKenzie and James “Sonny” McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie was retired from Frostburg State University as a shift engineer. He was a member of the Eckhart United Methodist Church and the Maryland State Classified Employees Association. Surviving are one son, Kenard “Ken” McKenzie and wife Pam, Cumberland; one grandson, Troy McKenzie, LaVale; mother-in-law, Myrtle Porter, Frostburg Village Nursing Care Center; four brothers, David McKenzie and wife Charlotte, King George, Va., Kenneth McKenzie and wife Joyce, Warsaw, Va., Herbert Rowe and wife Lillian, Indian Head, Md., Wayne McKenzie and wife Diane, New Tripoli, Pa.; two sisters, Alice Sullivan, Sacramento, Calif., Jean Cox, Greenbelt, Md.; a special loving friend, June Huffman, Cumberland; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating. Interment will be in the Eckhart Cemetery.
