    Notes
    • RAVENNA, Ohio — William Paul "Bill" Dickel, 74, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at his home after a hard fought battle with cancer. Born Nov. 28, 1937, in Frostburg, he was a son of the late Joseph and Idella (Gordon) Dickel. Bill attended Beall High School in Frostburg and then moved on to serve in the U.S. Navy. After marrying the love of his life, Phyllis Jean Dickel on Sept. 21, 1968 he moved to Ravenna, where he has lived for the past 43 years. Bill, also known as "Wild Bill" to many, has been an active and well recognized member of the Ravenna community. He worked for the City of Ravenna Street Department for 30+ years where he was famous for being the "man in the hole" fixing those water breaks. He is a member of Immaculate Conception Church where he called bingo and served as a scout master for several years. He has been an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 43 years and has also volunteered at the American Legion and VFW. He loved attending sporting events that involved his grandchildren and coached soccer for a few of their teams. He loved camping, country music, playing cards and dominoes, hunting, golfing, puzzles, and traveling. He especially loved taking Jean "down the road" to visit their friends at the Mountaineer Casino. Bill was always one to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He danced every day of his life. His character was larger than life and he was wonderful at making those around him smile. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons and daughters, Lavina Wright, Lufkin, Texas, Terri Burbridge, Kent, David (Billie Jo) Atkinson, Champion, Joe Dickel, Kent, and Billie Jean (Dwayne) Eddy, Ravenna; grandchildren, Johvon (Dustin) McPhail, Lufkin, Daniel and Chelsea Burbridge, Kent, Alex, Nicholas, Kyle, and Gillian Atkinson, Champion, Eric and Cory Eddy, Ravenna; and one great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Segura, Lufkin, Texas. He is survived by brothers, Leo (Betty) Dickel, Ravenna, and Donald (LaDonna) Dickel, Frostburg; and sisters, Betty Hutzell, Stow, and Barbara Ash, Frostburg. He was preceded in death by sister, Genevieve Virginia "Jenny" Railey. Friends will be received at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home, Ravenna, on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Grandview Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be sons, David Atkinson and Joe Dickel, grandsons, Daniel Burbridge, Alex Atkinson, Eric Eddy, and special friend, Don Roberts. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Ravenna Visiting Nurse and Hospice Program, 6693 North Chestnut Street, Suite 11A, Ravenna, OH 44266.
