- FREDERICK - William Lee Sutherland, 73, of Frederick, passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. Born Sept. 3, 1944, at Westernport Road, he was the son of the late William Alexander and Mary Katherine (Popp) Sutherland. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Snyder. Bill was a United States Naval Veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Data Processing Center of Geico Insurance with 45 years of service, having been a supervisor. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Walkersville, a member of the American Legion and a member of the USS Atka Naval Veterans Association. Bill and his wife traveled extensively during their retirement, with Tybee Island and Ocala, Fla., their special places. Bill loved walking, learning how to play special sports and working out at the Y.M.C.A. He leaves behind his wife, Cynthia Suzanne (McKenzie) Sutherland; his children, Bryan Sutherland (Gerryann) of Britain, Conn., Nicole Grossi (Dominick) of Arnold, Marcey Lancaster (Jason) of Cumberland, Paula Redman of Keyser, W.Va., Fredricka Reed (David) of Lenexa, Kan., and Dave Imperio (Mari) of Belfair, Wash. He is also survived by his siblings, Carolyn Pfarr (Ed) of Florida, Judith Durr of Cross, W.Va., Bob Sutherland of Rochester, N.Y., Donna Johnston (John) of Frederick, Donnie Sutherland (Karen) of Keyser, Davy Sutherland of Westernport, Rhonda Idleman (Dave) of Elk Garden, W.Va., Margie Sutherland (friend, Roy Barnes) of Midlothian, Mike Sutherland (Niola) of Abingdon, Tom Sutherland (friend, Tammy) of Ridgeley, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Jack Snyder of Westernport. Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Mark Dill officiating. Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Johns Hopkins Hospital, C/O Kimmel Cancer Center, Weinberg Building, 401 North Broadway Baltimore, MD 21231.
