- He died on 14 Nov 1960 at the age of 71 in Cumberland, Allegany Co., Maryland. William DeWarren Porter, 71, who formerly operated a restaurant in Cumberland, was pronounced dead on arrival yesterday afternoon at Memorial Hospital. Mr. Porter, who operated Porter's Restaurant on North Mechanic Street, was stricken at his home, 324 Pear Street, and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 4:30 p.m. Mr. Porter at one time also operated a grocery store on Columbia Avenue, and retired in 1950. A native of Eckhart, Mr. Porter was a son of the late Josiah and Helen (Wonn) Porter. He was a 50-year member of Cumberland Aerie 245, FO Eagles. Surviving are his widow, Annie Catherine (Williams) Porter, and two sisters, Mrs. William Ricker and Miss Cora Porter, both of this city. The body is at the Hafer Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted on Thursday at 2 p. m. at the funeral home by Rev. Louis L. Emerick, pastor of Trinity Methodist Church. Pallbearers, all nephews, will be William Williams Jr., Robert Williams, James E. Williams, Dale Williams, Olin Schultz and John Thomas.
