- CRESAPTOWN — Homer Merle Smith, 86, of Cresaptown, went home with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at home surrounded by his loved ones. Born April 5, 1925, in Madley, Bedford County, Pa., he was the son of the late Edward Henry and Josie Ann (Shroyer) Smith. He was preceded in death by the love of his life for 46 years, his wife Grace C. (Stottlemyer) Smith; his brothers, Allen, Charles, Carl and Earl Smith; and a sister, Marcelle Elliot. He is survived by his four-legged best friend, Rascal, who was his faithful companion over the past 10 years, his brothers: Glenn and wife Margaret, Detroit, Mich., Ray and wife Elaine, Jennerstown, Pa., Lee and wife Shirley, Pennsylvania; sisters, Peggy Hagen and husband Fred, Bedford, Linda Holler and husband Kenny, Schellsburg, Pa.; his special friends, Christina and Larry Lease and family; special niece, Dena Stottlemyer and nephew, Richard Trost and wife Suzie; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was employed as a welder for General Motors, Sharon, Pa. until becoming disabled at the age of 42. Homer was a talented “Jack of all Trades”, from building his home to repairing his own cars and lawn mowers. Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A, Cresaptown, (www.scarpellifh.com <http://www.scarpellifh.com>) on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Celebration of his life will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gene Cecil officiating. Interment will be in the Lease Cemetery, Cresaptown. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Allegany County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 566, Cumberland, or the Western Maryland Hospice Home Care, 1050 West Industrial Blvd., Suite 19, Cumberland, or the charity of the donors choice.
