- KEYSER, W.Va. — Robert L. Walker Jr., age 78, of 1380 Ludwick St., Keyser, died on Thursday, May ll, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, Md. He was born at Luke, Md., on June 14,1927, and was the son of the late Robert L. Walker Sr. and Naomi (Brumback) Walker He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra J. Walker in 1998 and also by two brothers, Overton and Lee Walker and one sister, Beatrice Hershberger and a great-grandchild, Madison A. Clites. Mr. Walker was Pentecostal by faith and was a member and trustee of McCoole Freedom Church. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy from 1945 until 1947, He was a member of Victory Post 155 American Legion in Westernport, Md. He retired from Westvaco Corp. in 1991 with 46 years of service. He worked in the 6 & 7 Beater Room at the time of his retirement. He was a member of Luke Local 676 UPIU. He was active in his church and loved to play his harmonica and sing. He was also a Sunday school teacher. He loved to work in his garden and spend time with his familyHe is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joanna P (McKenzie) Walker; one son, Robert R. Walker and wife Carolyn of Falling Waters; three daughters, Nancy S. Whitehurst and husband David of Martinsburg; Carol A. Crites and husband Samuel of Keyser; and Patti L. Marple and husband Donald of Keyser; three brothers, Ralph Walker and wife Mary Alice of Hamlet, N.C..; Forrest Walker of Conneaut, Ohio; and Joseph Walker and wife Faye of Eufaula, Ala.; and one sister, Mildred Moorehead and husband Sam of Westernport. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Amy L. Hawley, Samuel L. Crites II, Andrew B. Crites, Dianna R. Walker, Julie B. Shallis, David M. Whitehurst, Donald R. Marple and Nathan R. Marple; and four great-grandchildren, Samuel L. Crites III, Morgan G. Crites, Kaleb E. Hawley and Kamden Shallis. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, on Sunday, May 14, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at ll a m. on Monday at the funeral home with the Revs. Norman Oates and Donald E. Marple officiating. Interment will follow at Potomac Memorial Gardens in Keyser. Pallbearers will be Samuel Crites II, David Whitehurst, Andrew Crites, Nathan Marple, Kip Shallis, Kevin Hawley and Delbert Spencer. Cumberland Times News, Friday, May 12, 2006, Cumberland, Maryland
