- Loren E. Dent, Sr., 76, a resident of Dawn View Nursing Home, Fort Ashby, formerly of Purgitsville, died Friday, Sept. 12, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, MD. Born Dec. 10, 1920, in Old Fields, he was the son of the late Thomas and Nettie (Shoemaker) Dent. He also was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters. Mr. Dent retired from the Chessie System Railroad as a Carman after serving 36 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Carman and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theater. He was a member of the American Legion, Westernport, and the VFW, McCoole. Surviving are his wife, Bernice Irene (McKenzie) Dent, Dawn View Nursing Home, Fort Ashby; two sons, Loren E. Dent, Jr., Fort Ashby, and John R. Dent, Burlington; one daughter, Sylvia J. Baker, New Creek; one sister, Dorcas Genemore, West Newton, PA; 11 grandchildren, Tracey Rohrbaugh, Loren E. Dent III, Kevin Dent, Shanna Day, Travis Dent, Lucas Dent, Shane Dent, Cody Dent, Scott Orem, Mark Orem, and Michael Orem; and three great-grandchildren. Services were conducted at the Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney on Saturday with the Rev. Samuel E. Biser officiating. Interment was in the Old Pine Cemetery in Purgitsville, WV.
