- LONACONING — John "Jack" Earl Smith, 83, of Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007 at WMHS Braddock Campus, Cumberland. Born June 1,1923 in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Thomas Smith and Jennie (Robertson) Smith. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Pauline (McKenzie) Smith, 1970; one grandson, Steve Smith; one brother, William Roger Smith. He was a Veteran of the Navy during World War II as a Gunners-Mate. He was retired after 35 years from the Westvaco Paper Mill where he was a Roll Finisher for the Lower Mill Wrapping Line. He also loved to play his steel guitar in his band "Country Diversions", go camping, fishing, hunting, and woodworking. He is survived by his second wife, Maxine Virginia (Kesner) Smith, Romney, W.Va.; two daughters, Joyce Lynn Clark and husband Lane, Keyser, W.Va., and Donna Darlene Brashear and husband Steve, Westernport; two sons, Charles Earl Smith and wife Selina, Shaft, and Steven John Smith and wife Tammy, Barton; eight grandchildren, Keith Clark, Jason Clark, Laina Clark, Jeremy Thomas, Shanna McDowell, Adam Smith, Jared Smith, and Derek Smith; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter Clark, Marina Clark, Cienna Clark, Morgan McDowell, Mason McDowell, Chase Thomas, and Peyton Thomas; several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home PA., Lonaconing, on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Feb. 19, 2007 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Loar officiating. Interment will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg. The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Devlin, Egle Nursing Home, the Hospice Care Unit, and a Special Nurse, Barbara White. Cumberland Times-News, February 17, 2007
