  Notes	Joanna P. Walker, 79, of Ludwick St., Keyser, W.Va., died on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. She was born on Feb. 17, 1933, in Westernport, and was the daughter of the late Ralph McKenzie and Ella Mae (Coleman) McKenzie. Her husband, Robert L. Walker who died in 2006; one daughter, Debra Walker; two brothers, David McKenzie and Ralph McKenzie and four sisters, Donna Smith, Marlene Rosier, Shirley Spencer and Margaret Johnson, also preceded her in death. Joanna was an active member of the McCoole Freedom Church. She served as the secretary, was a member of the church choir and the women’s fellowship. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, planting flowers and taking care of animals. She worked for several years at the former Keyser Carpet Corner in Keyser, W.Va. She is survived by her children, Robert Walker and wife Carolyn, of Falling Waters, W.Va., Nancy Whitehurst and husband David, of Martinsburg, W.Va., Carol Crites and husband Samuel I., of Keyser, W.Va. and Patti Marple and husband Donald Jr., of Keyser, W.Va. She is also survived by four sisters, Martha Beeman and husband Howard, of Fairoaks, Pa., Carolyn Duckworth of Frostburg, Brenda Wilson and husband Henry, of Dothan, Ala., Sandra Lettieri and husband Don of Weirton, W.Va. and one brother Gary McKenzie, of Dothan, Ala. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Dianna Mc-Whirter, Julie Shallis, Amy Hawley, Samuel Crites II, Andrew Crites, Donald R. Marple and Nathan Marple; and eight great-grandchildren, Kamden Shallis, Kody Shallis, Olivia Whitehurst, Kaleb Hawley, Isaiah Hawley, Samuel L. Crites III, Morgan Grace Crites, Mercie Crites; a special niece, Joyce Clark, of New Creek, W.Va. and many other nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, W.Va., on Sunday from noon until 3 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev Donald Marple Sr. officiating, assisted by the Rev. Katherine Ford. Interment will follow at Potomac Memorial Gardens in Keyser, W.Va. The family would like to give a special thanks to the 7th floor Nursing Staff and aides at the WMHS for the loving care they gave to their mother. Cumberland Times-News, October 5, 2012.
