- CUMBERLAND — Ethelinda “Ethel” DeLawder, 84, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at the Devlin Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland. Born Feb. 6, 1913, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Austin and Ollie (McKenzie) Fortney. She also was preceded in death by two husbands, Robert Whiteman and Garrett DeLawder; two sisters, Betty Robinson and Margaret Byers; and one brother, Raymond Fortney. Mrs. DeLawder was a homemaker. She was a member of the Central Assembly of God Church, and the Golden Agers at the Salvation Army. Surviving are three daughters, Sharon E. Winner and husband Ralph, LaVale, Linda I. Cameron and husband Doyle, Teague, Texas, and Lois A. Keeney and husband Donald, Union Bridge; two sons, Thomas A. DeLawder and wife Bonnie, Mexico Farms, and Gary R. DeLawder and wife Sandy, Bowling Green; one brother, Austin W. Fortney and wife Betty, Luke; 24 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cumberland. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor J. Gary Butler officiating.
