- April 9, 2001, Cumberland Times-News ~ MOUNT Savage - George William (Posey) Lilly Sr., 81, of Upper Bank Street, P.O. Box 537, Mount Savage, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born on March 6, 1920, in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late James Lilly and Emma Dyling Lilly. Mr. Lilly was also preceded in death by brothers, Joseph Lilly and James Lilly; and sisters, Marie O'Brien and Margaret O'Neal. Mr. Lilly is survived by his wife of 60 years, M. June Elrick Lilly of Mount Savage; two sons, George W. Lilly Jr. and wife MaryAnn, Ellerslie, and Dennis R. Lilly, Mount Savage; one daughter, Mary Teter and husband Dave, Mount Savage; four grandchildren, Cindy Troutman and husband Mark, Carrie Witt and husband Rob, Eric Lilly and wife Christie and Connie Teter; seven great-grandchildren, Tahmya and Shaleena Troutman, Brodie and Bryce Witt, Kayla and Eric Lilly II, and Mark Teter; and one sister, Emma Hammel, Lewes, Del. Mr. Lilly was retired from ABL with 38 years of service. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Mount Savage. Anyone that new him will remember him as a great storyteller and for the love he had for his work. But his family will remember him as a loving and strong man who never complained. He was a very generous man who worked hard and had a great knowledge of life that will live in the hearts of his family forever. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and will be sadly missed. In accordance with Mr. Lilly's wishes, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Mount Savage, on Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Milton Hipsley as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Mount Savage. The family requests that memorials in honor of George W. Lilly Sr. be made to Friends Aware, 1601 Holland St., Cumberland, MD 21502. The Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, is in charge of the arrangements.
He was buried on 10 Apr 2001 in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Mount Savage, Allegany Co., Maryland.
