- Virginia Lee "Ginny" (Monnett) Kready, 82, of Cumberland, passed away at the Allegany, Health, Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Cumberland on March 20, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Norman E. and Julia (Chaney) Monnett. In addition to her parents, Ginny was also preceded in death by her husband, John C. Kready; two sisters, Mary Hook and husband, Arthur, and Barbara Monnett; brothers, Paul Monnett, Donald Monnett, Fred Monnett, and Leonard Monnett. Ginny was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1954. She was employed at the Beverly Shell Gas Station and Convenience Store. She was later employed at the Thomas B. Finan Center as a cook, from where she retired. Ginny was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church. Ginny is survived by one sister, Stella M. Bauman Neilson, Cumberland; sister-in-law, Ethel Monnett, Oldtown; nephews, Jim Hook and wife, Donna, and John Hook, Mark Monnett and his family, and Chris Monnett and his family; nieces, Debbie Smith and husband, Randy, Kim Morlen and husband, Danny, Mary Lou Bishop and husband, Tom, Dawn Michaelle Howell and husband, Darin, and their daughter Taylor, Judy Monnett and her family, and Missy Monnett and her family; several other nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Lawrence "Hoag" Wolford and his wife, Jean, Chuck Kinsman; and her special rug rat, Whitney Richard. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, from 2 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harold McClay officiating. Burial will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Hook, John Hook, Mark Monnett, Tom Bishop and Danny Morlen. Ginny had requested that her friends and family members refrain from sending flowers. Those wishing to honor her memory may do so by making memorial contributions to: Christ United Methodist Church, 400 Race St., Cumberland, MD 21502; or, the District 16 Volunteer Fire Company, 12100 Oldtown Rd. SE, Cumberland, MD 21502. The family would like to express their gratitude to Allegany Health, Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, especially the employees of the third floor.
