      "JOSEPH M. MCKENZIE, RESIDENT SINCE 1943, DIES AT HOSPITAL"

      "Joseph Monroe McKenzie, 71, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, following an illness of three months."

      "He was born July 18, 1885, in Effingham county and had resided in Girard since 1943. He is survived by his wife, Ota; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Smith, Farmersville and Mrs. Ruth Durbin, Earlville; six sons, Norman, Shelbyville; Kenneth, Lynwood, California; Warren, Topeka, Kansas; Eldon, Highland, Indiana; Gerald, Springfield and Walter at home; 19 grandchildren; two half-sisters and a half-brother. Remains were taken to the Berry funeral home in Girard. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Windsor. Rev. Eugene Lamport will officiate."

      "Funeral services for Joseph McKenzie, 71, were held Thursday afternoon, Jan. 10, at Windsor. Rev. Eugene Lamport officiated. Pall bearers were Floyd Jackson, George, Wayne, Woodrow and Raleigh Dial."

      "A native of Effingham county, Mr. McKenzie had lived in Girard since 1943."

      "He is survived by his wife Ora (sic), two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Smith, Farmersville; and Mrs.Ruth Durbin, Earlville; six sons, Norman, Calif. (sic), Warren, Topeka, Kansas; Eldon, Highland, Indiana; Gerald, Springfield; and Walter, at home."

      "NEWS--Cottage-Moccasin--JOHN AND WOODROW DIAL ARE AT FUNERAL OF JOE MCKENZIE"

      "John Dial and son, Woodrow Dial, attended the funeral of John Dial's half-brother, Joe McKenzie, last Thursday. Mr. McKenzie was the son of the late Lewis and Sarah McKenzie and was raised in the Moccasin community."

      "He was 72 years of age and he, with his family, had lived at Girard, south of Springfield for the last several years."

      "He leaves his wife, who was the former Odie Steel, of the Beecher City community before their marriage."

      "Mr. McKenzie leaves six sons and two daughters and a large number of relatives. He had been in a Springfield hospital for some time before his death."

      "The funeral services were held in Windsor last Thursday afternoon with burial in Ash cemetery."

      "Mr. and Mrs. McKenzie were residents of the Cottage and Moccasin communities several years after their marriage where several of their children were born. At one time he was an employee of the C. & E. I. Railroad in Moccasin a few years."

      "In his boyhood he attended the Lower Moccasin school during 1897 and 1898 when we happed to be teaching there. Therefore, to us, Joe was a mighty fine student and we admired him very much."
