MCKENZIE, RESIDENT SINCE 1943, DIES AT HOSPITAL" "Joseph Monroe McKenzie, 71, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, following an illness of three months." "He was born July 18, 1885, in Effingham county and had resided in Girard since 1943. He is survived by his wife, Ota; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Smith, Farmersville and Mrs. Ruth Durbin, Earlville; six sons, Norman, Shelbyville; Kenneth, Lynwood, California; Warren, Topeka, Kansas; Eldon, Highland, Indiana; Gerald, Springfield and Walter at home; 19 grandchildren; two half-sisters and a half-brother. Remains were taken to the Berry funeral home in Girard. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Windsor. Rev. Eugene Lamport will officiate." Mr. McKenzie was the son of the late Lewis and Sarah McKenzie and was raised in the Moccasin community."
