- Bernard C. YOUNKIN was born about 1907. He died on 12 Feb 1933 in Garrett Co., Maryland. Grantsville, Feb. 14 — The funeral of Bernard C. Younkin, 26; who died Sunday night in Miners' Hospital, Frostburg, from a fractured skull, when struck by a falling pole, will be held at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning from St. Stephen's Catholic Church here. Burial will be In Grantsville cemetery. He was a member of the Grantsville Fire Department and Woodmen of the World Camp at Grantsville.Younkin, with several others, was helping in the erection of poles for a private electric light line from the National Highway to the lodge of Marshall Pressman, Frostburg, along the Castleman River. A 35-feet pole being raised with pike poles slipped and began to fall. Younkin stumbled and fell as he stepped to the side, and the toppling pole struck him back of the head. He was brought to the hospital about 5 o'clock and died several hours later. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Younkin; two sisters, Rosella, at home, and Sister Eileen, St. Monica's convent, Milwaukee, WIs. The Cumberland Evening Times, February 14, 1933.
