ACCIDENT - Two Accident residents were struck and killed by a car Tuesday evening as they were walking along Accident Friendsville Road. Maryland State Police said Kimberly Ann Minnick, 27, and Jerod Lee Minnick, 25, were hit by a 1993 Buick Park Avenue driven by Daniel Joseph Porter, 19, of Swanton, as he was traveling westbound. Police said the "country roadway has little to no shoulders" and preliminary investigation revealed that glare from the sun was a factor in the fatal accident, which is being investigated by Tfc. G.D. Byrnes at the McHenry Barrack. Alcohol, speed and negligent driving do not appear to be factors, according to police. The Garrett County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the investigation. The victims' next of kin was notified on the scene by the investigating officer.

ACCIDENT - Kimberly Ann and Jerod Lee Minnick will both be missed following a traffic accident Tuesday evening that took both their lives. "(Jerod's) mother said last night that they couldn't have survived without each other," Linda Bolden, owner of Wayne's Water n' Wells and Jerod Minnick's employer, said. "They wouldn't have known what to do without each other." Jerod, 25, was employed by the well and spa company for about six years, and Bolden described him as a dependable and reliable worker, always willing to offer help when needed. He was one of the rescue workers at the Quecreek mine accident in Somerset County in 2002. Kimberly, 27, was an employee of the Maryland State Highway Administration at the Keysers Ridge garage. Her co-workers considered her an outstanding employee and said that she would be "sorely missed." The Minnicks were walking along Accident Friendsville Road east of Texas Eastern Drive near their home Tuesday around 7 p.m. The road is a "country roadway with little to no shoulders," according to police. The couple were struck and both were fatally injured by a 1993 Buick Park Avenue driven by Daniel Joseph Porter, 19, of Swanton. Initial investigation by Maryland State Police revealed that the glaring sun appeared to have been a factor in the accident. Maryland State Police, aided by the Garrett County Sheriff's Office, are continuing their investigation of the accident. The Newman Funeral Homes, 179 Miller St., Grantsville, is in charge of arrangements for the couple.
