- FINZEL - James Willard Crowe, 70, died Sunday at his residence. Born here, he was a son of the late Roy E. Crowe and Clara (Wolfe) Crowe. Mr. Crowe was a retired agent for the People's Life Insurance Company and served in the Army in World War II. He was a member and lay leader of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Route 40 and was a member and chaplain of the Eastern Garrett County Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Charles E. Kelly Post 112, American Legion, Meyersdale, Pa.; Cumberland Lodge 271, Loyal Order of Moose, the Grantsville Republican Club and the Allegany-Garrett County Christian Firefighters Association. His first wife, the former Jean Blaney, died in 1964. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Helena (Wiland) Crowe; five daughters, Mrs. Nancy Klink and Mrs. Lois Shockey, both of here; Mrs. Jo Ann Shumaker, Eckhart; Mrs. Darlene Raley, Cumberland; Miss Lori Crowe, at home; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Gloria Beitzel, Accident; one stepson, Roger Wiland, Grantsville. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Hilda Sturtz and Mrs. Ruth Stanton, both of Grantsville; seven brothers, the Rev. Fred Crowe, Glasgow, Mont.; Frank Crowe, Harold Crowe and Hubert Crowe, all of Finzel; the Rev. Karl Crowe, Newport News, Va.; Archie Crowe, New Creek, W.Va.; Delford Crowe, Grantsville; nine grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Powell S. Hall. Interment will be in Johnson Cemetery, Garrett County, with military honors accorded by Charles E. Kelly Legion Post. Frostburg Lodge 348, Loyal Order of Moose, will hold a memorial service at the funeral home Monday at 7:30 p.m., to be followed at 8 p.m. by a memorial service held by the Eastern Garrett County Volunteer Fire Department. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Eastern Garrett County Volunteer Fire Department, Emmanuel United Methodist Church, or the Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad.
