- Sherman McKinley BITTINGER (son of Frank BITTINGER and Velma or Thelma Marie WILT) was born on 25 Jun 1926 in Jennings, Garrett Co., Maryland. He died on 18 Sep 2005 in Baltimore, Baltimore Co., Maryland. September 20, 2005, Cumberland Times-News - ELLICOTT CITY — Sherman McKinley Bittinger, 79, of 720 Hollow Road, Ellicott City, Baltimore, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, from complications of diabetes. Born June 25, 1926, at Jennings, he was the son of the late Frank and Velma (Wilt) Bittinger. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eva C. Blocher, Aug. 25, 1992. Mr. Bittinger was employed by Catonsville Community College in the custodial office. He also was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by two sons, Kenneth M. and Michael M. Bittinger both of Ellicott City; two daughters, Ruth M. Dennis and Helen L. Scelsi, both of Ellicott City; one brother, Donald M. Bittinger, Cumberland; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, from 5 to 7 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Daniel Agnew officiating. Interment will be held in the Grantsville Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Diabetes Association. He was buried on 21 Sep 2005 in Grantsville Cemetery, Garrett Co., Maryland.
