- Charles Edward (Ed) RAFFERTY (son of Charles Patrick (twin) RAFFERTY and Nora Ellen GLOTFELTY) was born on 22 Jun 1937 in Frostburg, Allegany Co., Maryland. He died on 29 May 2003 in Cumberland, Allegany Co., Maryland. AVILTON, MD: Charles Edward “Ed” Rafferty, 65, of 14 Avilton Road, Lonaconing, Maryland, died Thursday, May 29, 2003 at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Maryland.
Born June 22, 1937 at Frostburg, Maryland, he was the son of the late Charles Patrick and Nora Ellen (Glotfelty) Rafferty. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Rafferty and Robert Rafferty. Mr. Rafferty was a Roads Construction Supervisor Laborers with Local #616. He was a member of the Country Gospel and Bluegrass Band, “Back Up & Push”. Mr. Rafferty also was a member of the Classy Chassis Car Club and St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Grantsville, MD. Surviving is his wife, Rita A. (Weimer) Rafferty; one daughter, Mary E. Winters and husband, Ronnie, Jr.; Avilton, Maryland; two brothers, Daniel L. Rafferty, Apache Junction, Arizona; John L. Rafferty, Frostburg, Maryland; two sisters, Norine Beachy and Hilda Duncan, both of Frostburg, Maryland; and one granddaughter, Tia Winters. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller Street, Grantsville, Sunday, 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, June 2, 2003 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church @10:30 am with Rev. Milton Hipsley officiating. Interment will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Avilton, Maryland. A Christian Wake will be conducted at the funeral home, Sunday, @3:45 pm. Contributions may be directed to American Cancer Society.
