- Edgar Lewis McKenzie, 73, Lonaconing, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born Dec. 25, 1925, in Garrett County, he was a son of the late James Harris and Jeanetta Frances (Painter) McKenzie. He was also preceded in death by five sisters, Mabel Beechie, Evelyn Leary, Margaret McKenzie, Leota Wampler, and Freda Wiley; three brothers, Frank McKenzie, James McKenzie, and Lawrence McKenzie; and one granddaughter. He was a self-employed carpenter for H&D McKenzie Home Improvements. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served in Southeast Asia, the Philippines, and Shanghai, China. He received two Purple Hearts and a Medal of Valor. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Rincon Renegades 18, of Tucson, Ariz. Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Taylor, Tennessee, and Pam Lecount, California; two sons, Edgar McKenzie Jr., Hamet, Calif., and David B. McKenzie, Lonaconing; one stepdaughter, Bonnie Mitchell, Lonaconing; five sisters, Agnes McKenzie and Bula McKenzie, both of Akron, Ohio, Imogene Snyder, Export, Pa., Jeanetta Yoder, Baltimore, and Joy Perkins, Midland; one brother, Glenn McKenzie, Eckhart; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandsons; one great-great-granddaughter; and a special friend, Emma Madeline McKenzie. Friends were received at the Eichorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, where a service was conducted Wednesday, Oct. 20, with the Rev. George Loar officiating.
