GRANTSVILLE — Matthew Harry Pope, 42, of Grantsville, died, Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009 at his residence. Born Oct. 25, 1966 in Frostburg, he was the son of Mildred “Patsy” (Durst) Pope Schetrompf, step-father, Robert Schetromph and the late Harry Kenneth Pope, March 3, 2001. Mr. Pope worked for Thomas Hardwood in Oakland and was a graduate of Salisbury Elk-Lick High School. He attended auctioneering school in Iowa and was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and Woodmen of the World, Camp 45. Along with his mother and step-father, he is survived by two sons, Tyler Pope, Barton and Jesse Pope, Lonaconing; a step-daughter, Tasha Clark, Lonaconing; a brother, Philip Pope and fiancée Kim, Eustis, Fla.; two step-brothers, Philip Schetrompf, Lynchburg, Va. and Mark Schetrompf, Idaho Falls, Idaho; three sisters, Connie Caceres and husband Jorge, Hyndman, Pa., Brenda Brode, Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Patricia Wiley and husband John, Corriganville; several aunts and uncles, Dean Durst and wife, Joann, Nancy Craig, Scott Pope and wife, Janis, Marie Pope and Sandy Yoder; and several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, west of Frostburg, on Friday, Feb. 13, 2009 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel Agnew officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services to visit with the family. Pallbearers will be Tyler Pope, Steven Brode, Thomas Pope, Thomas Durst, David Durst, Jorge Caceres and Justin Wiley. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Matthew Pope Memorial Fund.
