- Ralph Oliver (Sam) Bowman (son of Roy S. Bowman and Mary E. STEELE) was born on 30 Dec 1927 in Frostburg, Allegany Co., Maryland. He died on 6 Mar 2012 in Cumberland, Allegany Co., Maryland. CRESAPTOWN — Ralph Oliver “Sam” Bowman, 84, of Cresaptown, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Devlin Manor Nursing Home. Born on Dec. 30, 1927 in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Roy S. Bowman and Mary E. (Steele) Bowman. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary E. (Bowman) Emerick. Mr. Bowman was a 1946 graduate of Allegany High School. Ralph worked as an electrician for Local Union 307 I.B.E.W. for 46 years, a house wiring instructor at Allegany College of Maryland for eight years and also as a salesperson for Long and Foster Realtors for five years. He was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church, Cumberland and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2883, Cresaptown. Surviving are his loving wife, Ruth L. (McKenzie) Bowman; one daughter, Sheila M. Harvey and husband Lawrence W. Harvey, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; and one brother, Robert E. Bowman, Cumberland. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, (www.scarpellifh.com <http://www.scarpellifh.com>) on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. Memorial services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ann Atkins and the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating. Inurnment will be held privately in Frostburg Memorial Park. Cumberland Times-News, March 7, 2012.
