      GRANTSVILLE — Carl William Maust, 89, of Grantsville, died Monday, July 5, 2010, at Select Specialty Hospital, Latrobe, Pa., after a very brief illness. Born March 15, 1921, in Addison Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Isaac and Cora (Folk) Maust. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon and Walter Maust; one sister, Ruth (Maust) Durst; one brother-in-law, Claude Durst; one sister-in-law, Ethel Maust; and a stepson, Donald Ray Failinger. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Louise (McKenzie) Maust; one daughter, Kathy Zimmerman and husband Rich, Grantsville; six grandsons, Adam Carl Bach, Lucas Timothy McMillan, Paul Andrew Zimmerman, Shawn William Zimmerman, Carl Isaac Zimmerman and Caleb Matthew Zimmerman; and one granddaughter, Heidi LaRose McMillan, all of Grantsville; one stepgrandson, Donald Gene Failinger, Chincoteague; one stepgranddaughter, Cheryl Barker, Glendale, Ariz.; one great-grandson due in October; one sister, Mary Eichorn and husband Clyde, Ligonier, Pa.; one sister-in-law, Edna (King) Maust, Springs, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a very close and special friend, Dale Kinsinger and wife Audrey, Grantsville. Carl was a member of Maple Glen Church of the Brethren and attended Cornerstone Assembly of God, Boynton, Pa., with his family. He worked hard all his life as a self-employed timber man. He also worked part time at Harbison-Walker Brick Factory. He never knew a stranger; he loved to talk to people. The family would like to thank the girls at the Grantsville Post Office, Grantsville Foodland and First United Bank and Trust for their kindness towards him. He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting, working in the woods, cutting firewood with his grandson, Adam, watching NASCAR racing and Pirate ball games with all his grandsons. He was a loving husband, father and brother and he had a very special love for his grandchildren. The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation for all the love, prayers and concern shown to them through his brief illness and loss. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at Cornerstone Assembly of God, Boynton, on Friday, July 9, 2010, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Twigg and the Rev. Daniel Whitacre officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in Grantsville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Adam Bach, Lucas McMillan, Paul Zimmerman, Shawn Zimmerman, Allen Bach, Mike Broadwater, Barry Maust and Keith Durst. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Kinsinger and Freeman Beitzel. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the American Rheumatism Association.
