She died on 25 Oct 2010 in Cumberland, Allegany Co., Maryland. CUMBERLAND — Bertha Marabel Nies, 85, of Cumberland, passed away Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born Aug. 17, 1925, in Grahamtown, Mrs. Nies was the daughter of the late Lawrence George Jenkins and Blanche Marie (LaRue) Jenkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J. Edward Nies; two brothers, Joseph Clark and George Jenkins; and a granddaughter, Amy Smithermen. Bertha was a retired supervisor from the State of Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles and an active member of the Fairview Avenue United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son, F. Allen “Buzz” Nies and his wife Cindy, Cumberland; her daughters, M. Jeannean Mc-Kay and her husband Larry, Cumberland, F. Eileen Poehl and her husband Gary, Iola, Texas, and Patricia C. Hubbard, Jemison, Ala.; her brothers, Carl Jenkins and his wife Pat, Furnace Acres, W.Va., and Louis Jenkins and his wife Jackie, Frederick; her sisters, Florence “Sis” Bridges and her husband John, Cumberland, Emma Becraft and her husband Ralph, Lecanto, Fla., and Fay Arbogast and her husband Opha “Buck,” Levels, W.Va.; as well as 12 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Charlie Riggleman officiating. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Cumberland Times-News, October 30, 2010
