- Ethelene Elizabeth BROADWATER (daughter of Chauncey Roy BROADWATER and Clara Ellen STARK) was born on 21 Mar 1919 in Bittinger, Garrett Co., Maryland. She died on 8 May 2011 in Grantsville, Garrett Co., Maryland. GRANTSVILLE — Ethelene Elizabeth Durst, 92, of Grantsville, died Sunday, May 8, 2011 at her residence. Born March 21, 1919, in Bittinger, she was the daughter of the late Chauncey Roy and Clara Ellen (Stark) Broadwater. She was also preceded in death by her husband, M. Harold Durst, Nov. 24, 1997. Mrs. Durst was a sewing machine operator for Flushing Shirt Factory and she was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she was also former secretary and vice president of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed piecing quilts, gardening, flowers, word puzzles and bird watching. She is survived by two sons, H. Richard Durst and wife, Judith, Sterling, Va. and David L. Durst, Grantsville; a daughter, Joanne Smith, Wilmington, Del.; a sister, Hazel J. Klotz, Grantsville; four grandchildren, Theresa, Joseph, Michael and Jennifer; and a great-granddaughter, Allison. Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Durst officiating. Interment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Hospice of Garrett County. Cumberland Times-News, May 9, 2011
