March 25, 2008 - Cumberland Times-News - CORRIGANVILLE - Robert Irvin "Bob" Burkett, 68, went to be with Jesus March 23, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Leola (McKenzie) Burkett; and Mary Louise's parents, Jay and Edith Spataro. He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise (Spataro) Burkett; his son, Bruce Patrick; his brothers: Bill Burkett and wife Carole, Mount Savage; Terry Burkett and wife Judy, Mount Savage; his sisters, Lou Ann Shircliffe, San Antonio; Jeanie Boor, Corriganville; Susan Aldridge and husband Charlie, Corriganville; Connie Martin and husband Denny, LaVale. Bob had numerous nieces and nephews who loved and respected his humor and advice; and his constant companion, an English bulldog, "Babe." Bob was a veteran of military service during the Vietnam era. He worked at Liberty Milk Co., Pittsburgh Plate Glass, and B & O Railroad. Bob was the owner of Cheers in Mount Savage for many years. Bob loved to hunt, and was a member of the Barrelville Outdoor Club, Piney Mountain Sportsman Association, Eagles and the Corriganville Volunteer Fire Company. Bob was very proud of being a 30 year blood donor for the American Red Cross. He also attended the Frostburg Church of the Brethren. Bob and Mary Louise were married for 47 years, he was the love of her life. Bob will be so missed, he was Mary's lifelong companion, a good Dad to Bruce, and to his brother and sisters, our friend and mentor. Bob was a man who if you met him, you never forgot his smile, his grin, his generosity and humor. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., Frostburg, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 11 a.m. with Bob's nephew, the Rev. Rick Riley officiating. Pallbearers will be nephews, Jay Walters, Chuck Walters, Jason Burkett, Timmy Burkett, Randy Aldridge and Jeff Boor. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Frostburg Church of the Brethren, 1 Beall St., Frostburg, MD 21532. He was buried on 27 Mar 2008 in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, Allegany Co., Maryland.
