    • GRANTSVILLE — Wayne Henderson Durst completed his tour of duty on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, after serving with honor for 93 years. Wayne was a lifelong resident of Grantsville, and departed life from Goodwill Assisted Living Facility where he last resided. Born March 5, 1922, in New Germany, he was the son of the late Henry Francis and Harriet Elizabeth (Miller) Durst. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Rae (Broderick) Durst; two brothers, Sylvan and Dallas Durst and one sister, Cleo Durst. Wayne served with distinction in the 25th Infantry division during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He rose to the rank of Tech Sergeant and commanded infantry troops in combat. He was a life member of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion and he was very active in that organization, especially by serving Funeral Details to honor his comrades in arms. He was also a life member of Walker-Harris Post 8826, V.F.W., Salisbury, Pa. He was the Parts Room Manager for Motor Service Co., (now Diehl Ford Sales) and also worked several years at heavy construction. Wayne was a Christian man, both in faith and in acts. He was a long time member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Grantsville. He had a beautiful voice and participated in church and community choirs. Wayne was the guy you could count on to know the right thing to do and then to do it. Of his many accomplishments in this life, Wayne was most proud of his two daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved. Deborah is married to Robert Stuck of Oakland, they have two children: a son, T.D. and his wife, Jennifer and their children, Glendon, Willis and Orion and a daughter, Chelsea. Kay is married to Jody Theriot of Grantsville, she has three sons, Anthony; Joe and his wife, Michelle and their two boys, Lucas and Drew and son, Jeremy. Friends will be received at the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on Monday, Sept. 21, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m. Services will follow in the church at 4 p.m. with Pastor Jenna Moon officiating. Interment will be in Grantsville Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion. Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Grantsville.
