- Joseph Gerald (Sam) BAER was born about 1917 in Finzel, Garrett Co., Maryland. He died on 27 Jan 1977 in Finzel, Garrett Co., Maryland. FROSTBURG — Joseph G. (Sam) Baer, 60, Finzel, died Thursday at his residence. He was born in Finzel, a son of the late Bertrand and Clara (Finzel) Baer. Mr. Baer was a retired employe of the Fike Vault Service and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pocahontas. Surviving are his widow, Mary (Baker) Baer; two sisters, Mrs. Kathleen Layman and Mrs. Beulah Wolford, both of Finzel, and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Michael's Catholic Church, with interment in Finzel Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be conducted at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Dale Wolford, Bernard Wolford, Robert Sturtz, Dale Lee Sturtz, Dale Whitehead and William McKenzie. The Cumberland News, January 29, 1977
