- Donald Jerome MCKENZIE (Joseph Edward or Edgar-3, Francis-2, John M.-1) was born on 6 May 1926 in Frostburg, Allegany Co., Maryland. He died on 6 Sep 2007 in Cumberland, Allegany Co., Maryland. Donald J. McKenzie, 81, of Frostburg, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007 at the WMHS-Braddock Campus. Born May 6, 1926 in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Joseph and Samantha (Werner) McKenzie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose (Arnone) McKenzie on Feb. 12, 2006; one brother, Karl McKenzie; one sister, Isabel Davis; and one grandchild, Shawn Cunningham. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. McKenzie worked at Pittsburgh Plate and Glass Industries, Allegany Ballistics Laboratory and retired from Delta Coal Sales, Inc. Donald served for two years in the U.S. Army during World War II with 11 months overseas. Many of his truck driving friends knew him by his handle, “Donald Duck”. He was a lifelong member of Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Frostburg. Surviving are three daughters, Donna Cook, Oakland, Anna Cunningham, Cumberland and Tina Moore, Salisbury; three sons, Steven McKenzie, Brian McKenzie and Gregory McKenzie, all of Frostburg; six granddaughters, Melanie Cook, Bellefonte, Pa., Janet Cook, Alexandria, Va., Megan Cunningham, Cumberland, Jennifer and Stephanie Moore, Salisbury and Abbi Jo McKenzie, Frostburg; three grandsons, Dr. Jeffrey Cook, Bellefonte, Pa., Joseph McKenzie, Frostburg and Lucas McKenzie, Frostburg. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Father James W. Hannon will conduct a Christian Wake Service during the afternoon viewing on Sunday. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated St. Michaels Catholic Church, Frostburg, on Monday at 11 a.m. with Msgr. Paul Byrnes as celebrant. Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Steven, Brian and Gregory McKenzie, Dr. Jeffrey Cook, John Cook and Patrick Cunningham. The family requests memorials be directed to Saint Michael’s School, 56 E. Main Street, Frostburg, MD 21532. Cumberland Times-News.

FROSTBURG — Donald J. and Rose (Arnone) McKenzie were recently honored at a celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. The family attended Mass at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Frostburg, with a reception immediately following in the parish social hall. The couple were married at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Frostburg on Sept. 18,1948. Approximately 200 guests attended the reception, which was hosted by the couple’s six children: Donna Cook, Oakland; Anna Cunningham, Cumberland; Steven McKenzie, Frostburg; Tina Moore, Salisbury; Brian McKenzie, Frostburg; and Greg McKenzie, Frostburg. Don is a retired former employee of Delta Trucking, Allegany Ballistics Laboratories and PPG Industries. He is the son of the late Joseph and Samantha McKenzie of Finzel. Rose was formerly employed by Tastee Freeze of Frostburg. She is the daughter of the late Michael and Lucy Arnone of Frostburg. The McKenzies reside on Big Savage Mountain West of Frostburg.
