- Ira Finzel, 60, who has owned and operated a restaurant here for many years, was found dead, yesterday at 7:30 p. m. two miles west of Frostburg on Big Savage mountain, near Route 40. Emory Rosenberger, who lives nearby, was walking through the woods, when he discovered the body. According to members of the Finzel family, Mr. Finzel had left his place of business about 6:30 p. m. to inspect road signs advertising his restaurant, when, it is their belief, he drove his car from the main highway to the woods to get a drink of water, after becoming ill. Dr. Louie H. Corson, deputy medical examiner, gave a verdict of death from heart ailment. Terrance J. Boyd, county investigator, and B. Frank Gaffney, Cumberland city detective, accompanied Dr. Corson here. A native of Finzel, Garrett county, and a son of the late Edward and Grace Finzel (sic), Mr. Finzel had been in ill health about a year. Besides his widow, Barbara Finzel, who assisted him in managing the business, he is survived by two children, Miss Grace Finzel and Edward Finzel, members of Beall High School faculty. He had three brothers, William, this.city; Patrick, Washington; and Thomas, Finzel, five sisters, Mrs. Arthur H. Hawkins and Mrs. Alice Goodwin, Cumberland; Mrs. Clara Baer, Miss Margaret Finzel, and Mrs. Henry Knepp, of Finzel. The Cumberland Evening Times, April 25, 1941
