- Theodore Roland "Ted" McKenzie, 95, of Brookeville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at Casey Hospice House. Born Jan. 13, 1922, in Mount Savage, Mr. McKenzie was the son of the late Elmer Charles McKenzie and Nelle Grace (Poorbaugh) McKenzie. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Leona Maley and Kathleen "Kay" Jones; his brothers, Reford McKenzie, Anthony "Dub" McKenzie, Melvin McKenzie, and Thomas "Red" McKenzie; and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. A graduate of Beall High School, class of 1941, Ted received his bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, class of 1952. He was an United States Army veteran in the Medical Corps for four years, having served in the European Theatre, and retired from the Washington Post in 1981 with 25 years of service. Ted loved to hunt and fish. He attended Saint Jude's Catholic Church. Ted was a member of the Elks Lodge 1778 in Riverdale, since 1957, and also the local hunting club. Ted is survived by his wife of 65 years, M. Angela McKenzie; as well as a host of relatives. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at 1 p.m. with Deacon Dave Conley officiating. Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
