- CUMBERLAND — Wallace B. Keller Jr., 75, of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, as a result of an automobile accident. Born Aug. 20, 1936, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Wallace B. Keller Sr. and Mary (Nixon) Keller. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Norma "Lee" (McKenzie) Keller; sister, Jean Monteleone; and a stepdaughter, Cindy (Moyer) Morrissey. Wally was a retired police officer for the City of Cumberland with thirty years of service, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Wally also worked at Leasure-Stein Funeral Home for over 20 years. After retirement, he became a dispatcher for the A.T. Trans for 7 years. He was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1954. He was an Air Force veteran, serving in the Search and Rescue. He was a life member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club, served as Vice President and was on the Board of Trustees for 15 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Police, Democrat Club and Fort Club Post 13 of Cumberland and life member of the Goodfellowship Club. Wally’s greatest joys were his two cats, Simba and Preston. He also loved music, dancing, and playing the drums when he could. Most of all, his greatest joy was going and seeing his old buddies to talk over old and new times. Wally was a very special, kind gentleman that would do anything for others. He never met a stranger. He was loved by all who knew him. He touched so many of our hearts with his warm compassion. Surviving are his loving companion of 18 years, Ms. Joan Gray, of Cumberland; one son, Wallace Bruce Keller III, of Cumberland; stepdaughter, Wendy Wagley and husband Chuck, of Cumberland; sister, Carol Firlie and husband Ed, of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Danny Keller and wife Ginny, of Grantsville; four step-grandchildren, Christa, Joshua, Moria, and Ryan; six great-grandchildren; very close nieces and nephews, Pamela Starkey, Craig Dyche and wife Tracee, of Cumberland, and Marsha Worthington and husband Eric, of Pennsylvania; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. At Wally’s request, he will be cremated without any services. All forms of sympathy may be sent to 14103 Rowely St. SE, Cumberland, c/o Joan Gray, to help with funeral expenses or charity of one’s choice.
