Frostburg - Mrs. Clara E. Layton, 50, RD 2, Frostburg, died Sunday at Miners Hospital. Born in Garrett County, she was the daughter of Joseph and the late Della (Meese) McKenzie. Her husband, Lawrence Layton, preceded her in death. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She is survived by six daughters, Emma, Nancy, Betty, Phyllis, Donna and Debra Layton, all at home; seven sons, James Layton, Wheaton; Howard Layton, Frostburg; and John, Paul, Lawrence, Robert and Larry Layton, all at home; a brother, J. Fred McKenzie, Frostburg; two sisters, Mrs. Murrell McKenzie, RD Frostburg; Mrs. John Orick, Somerset,Pa.; and six grandchildren. The body is at the residence. Requiem mass will be celebrated tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Church. Interment will be in Layton Cemetery, near Finzel. Pallbearers will be Thomas Turner, Thomas Wilhelm, Blain Wilhelm, Donald Drees, James McKenzie, and Richard McKenzie. The Cumberland News, June 2, 1964.
