Notes	Stephen Elias, was named after and baptized in Maryland by the famous Rev. Father Stephen Baden, the first native born priest ordained in the U.S. He and his wife Polly were married at St. Luke's and witnessed by their pastor, the French-born Father John Baptist Lamy. Stephen had 14 children, including one adopted child and at least two who died young. Stephen's wife was Mary Blubaugh. Stephen and Mary "Polly" lived near Danville OH until 1862, when he led a wagon train to Allen County, IN. Mary's parents, Jacob and Honora went along. Stephen later farmed 80 acres of land near Ft. Wayne, IN. Mary Blubaugh rode a horse, at the age of eight, in 1828 on the trip to Danville, OH when her folks moved there. She and Stephen owned an old bureau which was said to have come over on the ship that brought her family from Holland about the time of Lord Baltimore. They were said to have gone to England because of the religious persecutions in Holland and came over on a boat leaving for Maryland and the colonies. The bureau was bought from the estate by daughter Mary Catherine Blubaugh (Magers) and son-in-law and presented to the Historical Museum at Notre Dame University sometime in the 1930's.
