FROSTBURG — George W. “Bill” McKenzie, age 82, died Saturday, June 26, 2010, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Care Center. Born Sept. 7, 1927, in Frostburg, Bill resided with his brother and sister-in-law, Coby and Connie McKenzie’s Finzel Road home following their passing until his death. Bill was the son of the late James N. McKenzie and Oma A. (Caton) McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie was also preceded in death by his two brothers, James Coby McKenzie and Jack McKenzie; and three sisters, Helen Weimer, Blanche Shockey and Mary Hartman. Bill worked for years with his brother Coby cutting pulpwood and at Lutz’s Meat Market until his retirement. He loved to hunt, pick huckleberries in the swamp, watch softball games, watch westerns on television and enjoyed going out to eat. Bill was friendly, happy and smiled all the time. He called everyone, “Ol Buddy.” He was loved by all who knew him. He was given special loving care by his special nephews, Marvin, Gail, Darvin and Darrell McKenzie; and his special niece, Alice Snyder. He is survived by one sister, Edna Raley, Baltimore; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday, June 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel Agnew officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Emmanuel United Methodist Cemetery, Route 40, west of Frostburg. Pallbearers will be Mike Caton, John Kane, Ronnie McKenzie Jr., Don Snyder, Todd McKenzie and Donnie McKenzie. The family would like to give a special thank you to WMHS Regional Dialysis Center staff and the WMHS Intensive Care Unit staff. A thank you to Dr. Khanna, Dr. Ranjithan and Dr. Speckle for the care you provided. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Western Maryland Regional Health System, Regional Dialysis Center, 12502 Willowbrook Road, Cumberland, MD 21502.
