- FLINTSTONE — Mary Catherine Roland, 78, of the Devlin Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Flintstone, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 1994 at the nursing home. Born on Dec. 11, 1915 in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late George C. McKenzie and Blanche (Crowe) McKenzie. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Franklin “Sam” Roland, on Oct. 20, 1970 and one daughter, Joyce McCusker, on Jan. 8, 1992. Mrs. Roland was a life long resident of Flintstone and was a former employee of the Allegany County Board of Education at Flintstone School as a cafeteria worker. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Flintstone Volunteer Fire Company; Flintstone Homemakers Club and was a volunteer for the United Way and the Health Department Clinic and was a life long member of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was also a volunteer worker for the Board of Elections in Flintstone. Surviving are three sons, Ronald F. Roland, Tuolumne, Calif.; William D. Roland, Ladson, S.C.; Patrick A. Roland, Pompano Beach, Fla.; one brother, George L. McKenzie, Baltimore; four sisters, Pearl Lough, Baltimore; Grace Krumbine, California; Genevieve Schaeffer, California; Mabel Fisher, Frostburg; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur Street, on Friday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Flintstone.
