- FAIRMONT — George Marshall Lotz Sr., 97, of Fairmont, passed from this life Friday (Dec. 2, 2011) at The Arbors at Fairmont Nursing Home after a long illness. He was born in Mount Savage, Md., on Nov. 6, 1914, a son of the late Henry W. and Cecilia Grace McKenzie Lotz. George was a retired coal miner, having worked for Bethlehem Steel at the Barrackville No. 41 mine for more than 35 years. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the VFW Post 7048. He founded and served as president of the Greater Fairmont Carting Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, auto races, working on Gravely tractors and watching the Gillette Cavalcade of Sports boxing matches on Friday nights. Mr. Lotz is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, G. Marshall Lotz Jr. and his wife Mary Ann of Clermont, Fla.; his daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Robert Huss of Paradise, Calif.; one sister, Gracie Lepley of Mount Savage, Md.; two brothers, Frank Lotz of Mineral Wells, Texas, and Howard Lotz of Cannan, Conn.; four grandchildren, Kerri Huss Tollison, Robert Huss Jr., Darrin Lotz and Wade Lotz; and five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Michael and Catalina Huss, and Keeley Lotz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Julia Ann Kraley Lotz, on Jan. 9, 1989; seven brothers; three sisters; one grandson, Keith Lotz; and two great-grandsons, Conner and Colin Lotz. Friends may call at Frey Home For Funerals (Historic Chapel), 320 Madison St., Fairmont, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. George Batten officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens with full military honors being presented by the Military Veterans Council Honor Guard. [no source cited]
