- Death of John McKenzie – John McKenzie died at his home near Avilton, in Garrett County, on the 5th of March, 1905, after an illness of some length. He was about 71 years of age, was interred at St. Ann’s Cemetery nearby, on the 6th of the month. He was one of three sons of Samuel F. McKenzie, one of Garrett County’s very best citizens, who died a number of years ago. John McKenzie was a good and useful citizen; industrious, honest and true in all relations. He will be missed, not only in his immediate neighborhood, but beyond it. His wife, now widow, was one of the many daughters of the late Geo. W. layman. She survives. They have a considerable family of children, all grown. The McKenzie race takes in several revolutionary soldiers. The Republican, March 23, 1905
