AVILTON - Paul Raymond McKenzie, 87, of Avilton, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019, at his residence. Born Jan. 27, 1932, in Avilton, he was the son of the late Raymond Francis and Lula (Robeson) McKenzie. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Gilbert, Austin "Tip" and Leonard McKenzie; two sisters, Cecelia Dugan and Ann Fowler; one granddaughter, Ronda Kay McKenzie. Paul graduated from Grantsville High School, class of 1949. He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, St. Ann Catholic Church, Grantsville, and Old St. Ann Cemetery Corporation. Paul received his Certified Master Technician Degree in Auto Body Repair and Refinish from general Motors Training Center, Pittsburgh, Pa. He was formerly employed at Casselman Motor Company and operator of Long Stretch Texaco Service Station. Paul was also owner and operator of Paul's Auto Body Repair and Refinish in Avilton for 34 years. He was known for restoring antique cars and trucks. He loved playing country music on his organ. In the early 50's, he played the mandolin in "Pop" Plummer's Band, Blue Ridge Mountainers. After retiring, his hobby was building toy cars, trucks, clocks, wishing wells and wall baskets for his grandchildren and family. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley Ann (Wilson) McKenzie; two sons, Edward (Patricia) McKenzie, Killeen, Texas, Rickey D. McKenzie, Frostburg; two daughters, Christina (Kerry) Puffinburger, LaVale, Kathy (Brian) Friend, Friendsville; one sister, Mary Emma Warnick, Mt. Clemens, Mich.; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019, from 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, at 11 a.m. with Father Eric Gauchat officiating. Interment will be in the St. Ann Cemetery.
