  Notes	Death Notes: 19 Apr 1999, Edmonton Journal SLIFKA, James (Jim) Edward - James (Jim) Edward Slifka slipped away peacefully on Wednesday, April 14, 1999 at the age of 68 years, after a gallant fight with diabetes. Jim leaves his devoted and loving wife, Joyce (nee McKenzie), to mourn after 38 years of marriage. He is also survived by his four sons, Brett (Jacqueline), Blair (Deborah), Donald and James Jr. Always remembered as our devoted "Poppa" by his grandchildren, Garrett, Leanne, Shelby, Miranda, Cameron, Cailea, Christopher, Jamie and Cody and his mom Carol. Also mourning his passing is his stepmother, Charlotte Slifka; three brothers, Robert, Chris and Richard (Kathy); two sisters, Lynne (Royce) McNeill and Sheila O'Shea; two uncles, James Slifka and Edward (Dot) Slifka; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jim traveled down many a road in his life - from construction, trucking and working in the oil patch, before settling on doing what he loved the most - which was in the automotive sales field. He will be fondly remembered by his customers, peers and employers. Jim's expertise in heavy truck sales was well known in the Ford dealerships in Western Canada and was sadly missed when he was forced to retire early. During his short retirement years, he and his loving wife, Joyce spent many winters in the South and the summers following the pony chuckwagon races throughout Alberta. Jim was predeceased by his mother Aida; father, George; brother, Lloyd and great-nephew, Curtis. Memorial service April 24 at Appel Funeral Home/Central Memorial Chapel. Interment at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Burial Notes: Evergreen Memorial Gardens General Notes: Sons Donald and James Jr. may be from a previous marriage, they are not mentioned in Joyce's obituary.
