MY STORY by TOM MCKENZIE
November1994
In my early years I did man ythingswith my fathe rClarence McKenzie. We
trapped, hunted and traveled. Many times I walked 56 miles to Aunt Meg's with him
for visits or short stays. I remember my father as a teller of stories such as how to
catch horses. You pack your food and start to follow them, never stopping. Never
give them a chance to stop for a rest. Just keep going don't let them stop to sleep.
You are the man and being human you are smarter than an animal. Keep after them
night and day till they just wear down then you can just walk up to them and put a
rope around their neck and they are yours. The point of the story was that a man has
more endurance and that with proper preparation catching a horse was a simple
matter.
I have been a salesman,a plasterer,a miner,a carpenter,a builder of hotels and
housing developments. I was a self made millionaire by the age of forty-three. My
brother Harold and I developed a gold mine close to Trail and Moyier BC, from the
initial diggings and hauling of the ore to Trail for smelting to the selling of shares in
the stock market. These shares started at .35cents each and ended up at around $
7.50 per share when the project was completed.
I went to school for a total of five years, and was part of the contingent that went overseas
for WW2.

way. The trip took about two years.
