- CUMBERLAND - Eva Jean Goldsworthy passed away after a 2-1/2 year battle with cancer at home, surrounded by her care-givers, on July 26, 2018. Born June 2, 1939, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Louis and Anna Mary (McKenzie) Lease. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" P. Goldsworthy; her two young children, Jeanie and Mike; a brother, Jim; and, a sister, Marie. Survivors include her brother, Sam Lease and wife, Linda, Short Gap; nephews, Andy, Brian, and Scott Lease, Cresaptown, and Tim Lease, Hyndman; special friends and care-givers, Jean (Smiley) OBrien and Roger, Virginia Huff and Francis, Cresaptown; special neighbors, Tim Grove and Todd Bensavage; and best friend, Dot McKenzie. Jean was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. She was a private babysitter most of her life and later a day care provider. She loved playing cards with Sam and Linda, her flowers, bird watching, going to yard sales with Dot, and TV. Her greatest love was her love for children. We thank Jean for the dependable, loving and dedicated care you gave our most precious gems, Brett and Jeff Smiley and Jason and Melinda Huff. You were considered a mother and grandmother and were included for all holidays and events. Taking care of you during your illness was our way of repaying you for all your love and concern. You were always there for us so it became our turn to be there for you. We love you, Jean, and you will remain in our hearts forever. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene Street, Cumberland, on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with Rev. James Watson, OFM, Cap, as celebrant. Interment will be in the Lease Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be nephews and friends. Her care-givers thank the Schwab Family Cancer Center and the great WMHS Hospice staff, along with volunteers Judy Forebeck, Carol Kirchner, Jim Habersack and Lynn Riley, and sitters, Patti Snyder, Karen Hamilton, and Sandy Lease. Jean faced her illness with a positive attitude and embraced everyone with a smile and a thank you. Published in Cumberland Times-News on July 28, 2018
