- FROSTBURG - Mrs. Verna V. McKenzie, 70, of RD 2, West National Highway, died Monday, Feb. 11, 1991, at Frostburg Community Hospital. Born Mar. 11, 1920 in Finzel, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Barbara (McKenzie) Raley. Her husband, Anthony J. McKenzie, died in 1986. Mrs. McKenzie was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and a charter member and first president of the Garrett County Volunteer Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary. Survivors include three sons, P. Wayne McKenzie and David M. McKenzie, both of Frostburg; Richard J. McKenzie, Grantsville; four daughters, Mrs. Mary M. Fike, Mrs. Beverly G. Purbaugh, Mrs. Regina M. Buckalew and Mrs. Sally A. Scott, all of Frostburg; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Fate, Silver Spring; Mrs. Dorothy Arnold and Mrs. Evelyn McKenzie, both of Frostburg; 17 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home. A Christian wake service will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church by Msgr. John L. Reinsfelder. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers, all grandsons, will be Richard McKenzie Jr., David W. McKenzie, Brian Fike, Mark Fike, James Purbaugh Jr., Jeffrey Purbaugh, Keith Buckalew, and Jacob Scott.
