    • Shirley M. (McDermet) Christiancy was born to Ralph B. McDermet and Maude R. (McKenzie) McDermet on November 19, 1925 in Scottsbluff NE., and passed away on March 6, 2012 in Geneva NE.

      Shirley was one of five children in the family. She grew up in Hebron, NE and was graduated from Hebron High School in 1944. During World War II, she served her country working at the Bruning Air Base and for the OPA in Hebron. After the war, she worked for several years at the Thayer County court house in Hebron. Shirley was married to Rodger L. Christiancy of Geneva, NE on February 22, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron. The couple farmed near Grafton for two years, and then moved to the Christiancy homestead in 1956 where they farmed for the next 40 years until shortly before Rodger's death in 1997. In 1980, the Christiancy farm was honored by the Knights of Ak Sar Ben with the Nebraska Pioneer Farm award for being in the same family for 100 years. Shirley and Rodger were Husker football and basketball fans and season ticket holder for many years. Shirley had a passion for their farm, for her pet cats and dogs, and for gardening, playing bridge, sewing and all forms of needlework.

      Shirley was preceded in death by: husband, parents, infant brother, Jack McDermet; sister, Janice R. (McDermet) Maly; brothers-in-law James Maly; Claire Christiancy; Robert Christiancy; Ernie Volf; Harold Schmid, and sister-in-law Ardith Schmid; and niece, Peggy ( McDermet) Pfieffer.

      Shirley is survived by: sister, Mariam (McDermet) Eichel and brother-in-law Albert Eichel of Wantagh, NY.; brother, Jim McDermet and sister-in-law Marilyn McDermet of West Des Moines, IA.; sisters-in-law Marilyn Christiancy of Geneva, Kay Christiancy of Franklin and Evelyn Volf of Omaha; nineteen nieces and nephews, thirty-five great nieces and nephews and twenty-two great-great nieces and nephews.

      Burial was in the Geneva Public Cemetery, Geneva, NE.
