Augustus Joseph (Gus) MCKENZIE (James McClelland-3, Ambrose G.-2, John M.-1) was born on 22 Oct 1893 in Mount Savage, Allegany Co., Maryland. He died on 29 Dec 1967 in Pennsylvania. He was buried on 2 Jan 1968 in Wellersburg Cemetery, Southampton Township, Somerset Co., Pennsylvania. WELLERSBURG — Augustus J. McKenzie, 74, Wellersburg, died yesterday morning in Sacred Heart Hospital, where he had been a patient for two days. He was a native of Sand Patch, a son of the late James and Rebecca (Bolden) McKenzie. A retired coal miner, he was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Mt. Savage. Surviving are his wife, the former Gladys Chisholm; 10 children, James McKenzie, Corriganville; Mrs. Susan Habersack, Cresaptown; Mrs. Mary Faith Kennel, Hyndman RD 1; Elwood McKenzie, Germantown, Md.; John T. McKenzie and Mrs. John Haines, Cumberland; Mrs. Shirley Diehl, Mt. Savage; Harry V. McKenzie, Harper's Ferry; Augustus J. McKenzie, Jr., Glencoe, Pa.; and Frederick J. McKenzie, Wellersburg. A brother, James McKenzie, Cleveland; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Zerbaugh, Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Mary Blank, Mt. Savage, 46 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive. The body is at the Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m., tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. The rosary will be recited on Monday at 7:30 p.m. A Requiem Mass wil be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Mt. Savage. Rev. John J. Mackey will officiate, and burial will be in Wellersburg Cemetery. The Cumberland News, December 30, 1967.
