Andrew McKenzie, Demented Young Man Living in Greenville Township Shoots Himself

Last Saturday morning Andrew McKenzie, a young man from near Pocahontas,
committed suicide by shooting himself with a 12-guage shotgun. The young man had suffered from a mental derangement for some time and had spent five months in the County Hospital and returned to his home recently, much improved. Last week his brother was taken to the county institution for similar treatment. This seemed to worry Andrew very much. He had stated that he would kill himself rather than go back to the hospital for the insane. He apparently was in mortal fear of being taken back to the hospital, and on Saturday morning he took a shotgun and ended his worries. Coroner Emma Fluke reported it a case of suicide. He loaded the gun with a pumpkin bullet and, placing the butt of the gun on the ground and the muzzle under his chin, he stooped over and pulled the trigger. He was aged 27 years, 1 month and 12 days. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James McKenzie, and eight brothers and sisters, namely: Mrs. Rebecca Bolden, Grantsville, Md.; Robert McKenzie, Greenville Twp.; Elmer, Mt. Savage, Md.; Augustus, Glencoe; Wilbur, Greenville Twp.; Herbert, Akron, O.; James, Cleveland, O.; Mrs. Mary Blank, Mt. Savage, Md.; Mrs. Viola Zerbuck, Akron, O. Funeral services were held in the Pocahontas Catholic Church on Monday morning at 10 o'clock, followed by burial in the Loraditch Cemetery, in charge of Undertaker J. F. Reich.
