- Aunt Mary McKinzie died at the home of her son, A.B. McKinzie in Keyser April 6, 1903, aged 64. Years. The funeral was conducted from the Davis Street M.E. Church by Rev W.R. Wagner, of the M.E. Church South, at 2 PM the 8th. Interment in nthe Queen’s Point Cemetery. Aunt Mary had been a sufferer of Bright’s Disease for many years and through all her suffering she bore it patiently. Only ten days before her death, she visited the writer in her usual cheerful mood, though she realized that her earthly journey was almost closed. For 34 years she had been a constant member of the M.E. Church and died in the triumphant hope of a blessed immortality. She leaves to mourn her departure, besides an aged husband, four sons, A.B. and William of Keyser, Charles, of Piedmont, and Horris , of Blaine. May her children follow the example of their mother and prepare to meet her in heaven.
We have lost our darling aunt,
She has bid us all adieu;
She has gone to live in Heaven,
And her person is lost from view.
Oh, that aunt how we loved her.
Oh how hard to give her up.
But an angel came and took her,
And removed her from our view.
Call not back the dead departed.
Anchored safe where storms are o’er.
On the border land we left her
Soon to meet to part no more.
Farewell dear aunt! Sweet thy rest,
Weary with years and worn with pain,
Farewell, until in some happy place
We shall behold thy face again.
Lonely are our hearts today.
Lo, for the one we love so dearly
Has forever passed away.
