My mother related this story from my grandmother Mary Edna McKenzie Wolfe. Franklin “Guy” McKenzie who fought in WWI was exposed to mustard gas. He was permanently disabled and ended up in an Army hospital. In the mid 50’s he died from exposure when he wandered away from the hospital during the late fall and no one noticed he was missing.

Franklin Guy MacKenzie, 61, former resident, died yesterday at Perry Point Veterans Hospital where he had been a aptient. He was born here, a son of the late Charles J. and Ardella (lon) MacKenzie. Mr MacKenzie was a veteran of World War I and was also a member of Parl Place methodist Church. Surviving are three sisters. Mrs. Charles H. Wolfe, of here; Mrs. John L. Shaffer, North Chevy Chase, Md., and Mrs. Robert E. Little, Elizabethton, Tenn. Arrangements are incomplete.
